Obituary

OBITUARY OF LINDIWE MILLICENT MOKUENA

To my beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchild, My nieces and nephews, My two beautiful sisters, My in-laws, the Bakuena family, My cousins baka Mzozwane naba ka Nhlapo Nhlapo, Bagotsi baka Baha Williams, Thipe, Baha Mohapi, Baha Moloi, Baha Selepe le Baha Senyane, Thank you for the beautiful life we shared. I lived fully, I loved deeply, and I am grateful for each one of you. My heart is at peace because of the family God surrounded me with.

Lindiwe Millicent Mokuena was born on the 12th of October 1948 in Petsana, Reitz. She spent her formative years in Reitz, where the roots of her character were firmly planted. She was the firstborn of six children to Mduba Solomon and Thekeli Dorothy Mzozwane, who have since gone ahead and returned to the Creator.

From a young age, she carried herself with quiet strength - energetic, diligent, soft-spoken, yet guided by a firm and unwavering determination. Her early education began at Bantu Community School in Reitz, from Sub-A to Standard Six. Her passion for learning and growth led her to St Chad's in Ladysmith, later an education training college, where she completed her teacher training. In the later years of her professional career, she further strengthened her calling by obtaining a Teacher's Diploma from Vista University.

Teaching was not merely her profession, it was her calling, her ministry, and her gift to the world.

She devoted her life to shaping young minds, beginning her career at Mpucuko Primary School in Bethlehem, then moved to Ntabazwe Primary in Harrismith, followed by Dithotaneng Primary School in QwaQwa. Her final and most defining chapter was at Radipeu Primary School, from the late 70s as a farm school, where she became the founding Principal. In 2003, she retired with dignity, grace, and pride, handing over the baton to other remarkable women educators.

Affectionately known as "Mme", she was far more than a teacher. She was a mother, a guide, a protector, and a source of discipline grounded in love. Her legacy lives on in the thousands of lives she touched and the generations she uplifted through education.

She met her soulmate and life partner in Mafaleng Mokuena, the love of her life, who preceded her in departure to eternal rest in 2022. They were united in marriage on the 13th of April 1973, building a home rooted in love, faith, and compassion.

Together, they were blessed with Moorosi, Thabo, Disema, Lerato, Keneilwe, and Mamotshidisi. One of their sons, Disema, was called home earlier, and his memory lived gently in her heart.

Their love was not to be limited by blood alone. Their home became a sanctuary for many children God placed along their path. Thobeka, Noxolo, Sandisiwe, Ayanda, and Lungelo, her nieces and nephews were embraced with warmth and love. Jaleswa, Lindiwe, Mantaoleng, Resetselemang, and Eunice found both a mother and a father in her and Mafaleng's union. Truly, the list of children whose lives were shaped by her love is too long to count.

Her heart knew no limits!

In 2021, her health began to decline, and she bravely endured repeated hospitalisations with the same quiet resilience that defined her life. The family extends deep gratitude to Karabo, Dr Mazibuko, and Dr Thokoana, as well as the compassionate team of Ward 6 at Midvaal Private Hospital, who cared for her with dedication and kindness.

On the 18th of April 2026, at 06h00 in the morning, while at home, she passed peacefully, gently answering the call to eternal rest.

She leaves behind her children, Her sons-in-law Sehunelo and Tshegisi, pillars of strength to the Mokuena family, Her grandchildren Nteboheng, Thabiso, Boitumelo, Tumelo, Moagi, Modiehi, and Mamokgethi, Her only great-grandchild Kagoentle, Her beloved nieces and nephews, And her sisters Busisiwe and Zodwa.

It is said that "great people never die - they multiply." Her teachings, her love, her courage, and her values continue to live on in every life she touched.
